caution: wet paint

I spent the day painting with the piece turned sideways while laying the foundation for the reflection of the bridge….that was a trip.  Glad it’s over.

work in progress, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches. That reflection looks so bad. Well, that’s today. I plan on working that out tomorrow.

deception pass…or ?

Maybe it’s a bridge over troubled water….I’ve changed my mind every day for the last week or so that I’ve been painting away on this piece.  Maybe I just wasn’t motivated enough to start it.  Today, I mucked it up.  Tomorrow it might just be the background for a portrait…or I could place a kewpie doll with wings just off dead center, bobbing in the water.  I think that would be entertaining.  Others maybe not so much…..says that little voice that encourages me to paint something with a wider appeal, something commercial.  To, you know….

Barbie and Apollo Belvedere

It seems that man, in the past, in “classical” times, appreciated the human form with reverence…hence, Apollo Belvedere – arguably the epitome of a vision of man, carved in marble and revered by art historians as the most beautiful.  Today we have Barbie and all that that implies – the easy way out, molded and mass produced in plastic and when her useful life is over, she’s tossed.  The works in this group comment, sometimes discreetly, on the issue of beauty and relevance in a technologically oriented world.
