roughly speaking…

Here’s where I am…sometimes. The sun is out, you know. I have to take advantage of that!

Oh hell no!

The sun finally came out and inspired me to sketch something similar to this, being predisposed to transfer it to canvas in anticipation of starting to paint, but not quite. So today we see a sketch that will cease to exist in the near future!

It very well could be a serious lack of vitamin D, when will the sun come out? Try as I might, and I’ve made several sketches….I’m stuck. So, I’ve been looking at things I did thirty years ago, take for instance this lovely paper sculpture? Sculpture because this isn’t a painted piece. I dyed cotton linters in individual colors, rolled and cajoled the colors in this portrait and then sponged out the water. So sculpture. I will say that things have changed since I exhibited hand made papers…it was not considered a fine art at all, just a “craft.” Ha!

There. Now, isn’t that better?

I fully expected to finish this today, however, when I walked into the studio I saw that it was already complete!  Ha!  I stood there for more than a moment, inspecting, critically tearing apart the strokes, the color, the shadows….nope, there’s nowhere to apply paint.  It says exactly what I set out to express, some quizzical inquiry into the future and man’s rush toward utilization of artificial intelligence…  I titled it Temptation: 404 Page Not Found.

So, ah, I started something new….

work in progress, detail, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches

This is fun, isn’t it?  It doesn’t really have much “context,”  this is detail that I was working on today, roughly one-third of a larger piece.  As I was painting, I was thinking that glass is a temptation!  Is this Adam and Eve after the reboot?  And, that’s where context would help.  Where are these two?
